Opera singer Christa Ludwig passed away

The world famous German opera singer Christa Ludwig passed away in April near Vienna at the age of 93. Having been fascinated by opera from an early age, she made her debut as Prince Orlofsky in “Die Fledermaus” at the Frankfurt Municipal Stages in 1946. In 1955 she joined the Vienna State Opera, and it was not until 1994 that she celebrated her stage farewell after 769 performances at the Vienna State Opera. In the meantime she was a regular guest at Bayreuth, the Salzburg Festival and other well-known music festivals.

In the opera scene she is known for her passion and freedom of opinion. In mezzo-soprano she impressed many of her colleagues and audience. Thus, she is considered one of the great opera stars of the 20th century. In addition to numerous awards, such as the Berlin Bear, she received the Opus Klassik in 2018 for her life’s work.
