On April 13th, the list of nominees for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize was published. This has caused unrest in the book industry. Among the nominees, there were no POC authors in any category, which many have criticized. Now an Open Letter against the Leipzig Book Fair Prize has been published.
It is important to note that the authors of the letter do not want to attack the jury, nor attack the nominees. The letter is merely intended to stimulate a discussion on the topic of “institutional structures within German society”. There is still a lack of representation in juries, publishing houses and feuilleton editorial offices. By awarding only white authors, the diverse literary and cultural scene cannot develop further.
The open letter can be read and signed here.
