NRW supports amateur music associations with one million euros

Many choirs and music associations have also experienced financial hardship during the crisis. The non-profit ones among them are supported by separate aid programs of the federal states. In North Rhine-Westphalia, this aid program has now been increased by one million euros, according to the NRW Ministry of Culture and Science. Affected associations can receive up to €2,500 and have it paid out in staggered amounts if approved.

Klaus Kaiser, Parliamentary State Secretary in the Ministry of Culture and Science, commented: “North Rhine-Westphalia is home to a large number of choirs, orchestras and music groups. We want to support this colorful and lively landscape of amateur music associations with our forces in the Corona crisis and secure their continued existence. At the same time, we would like to use the additional funds to send a signal of appreciation to the mostly volunteers who are active in the clubs. They faced particular challenges in view of the restrictions imposed by the pandemic. I am pleased that the current developments in the pandemic now allow for more music making together – something that has been sorely lacking in recent months.”
