In North Rhine-Westphalia, a new prize is awarded annually to young artists. This year, for the first time, the North Rhine-Westphalia State Parliament is offering the “Kunstpreis des Landtags Nordrhein-Westfalen”. The prize is endowed with 15,000 euros.
The reason for the new prize, according to André Kuper (President of the State Parliament to the German Press Agency), is the importance of art. “Art is an essential part of our democracy.” Thus, art in liberal democracy is also to be honoured. In addition, he said, the prize is a sign of solidarity. Especially in times of pandemic.
The prize will be awarded on 17 January 2022. The call for entries runs from 01 – 30 September 2021. Interested parties must meet the following conditions:
- Artists from the fields of painting, drawing, sculpture, photography or new media.
- Resident or working in North Rhine-Westphalia or have completed their artistic training in NRW
- artistic graduation should be no more than three years ago
