Although the second Berlinale event with film screenings was planned for the summer of 2021, there are complications due to the worsening of the situation regarding the pandemic. The organizers said that the new restrictions make the planning even more challenging.
Due to the pandemic, the Berlinale was split into two parts this year. We have reported in detail about the first part of the event. The second part of the event was to take place from June 9 to 20. In consultation with the authorities, the Berlinale management is planning an open-air event. This includes an exchange about the film festival as a pilot project. A final decision is to be made and published in early May.
A second online festival would no longer be an option for the management. If an in-person event will not be possible, the festival could also be cancelled completely.
