Due to the nationwide emergency brake and the accompanying restrictions, the Komische Oper Berlin has decided not to open the opera for this season. The opera will still allow two performances, but otherwise the 2021 season is completely canceled. Advance sales for the season should have begun as early as May 10. Some theaters across Germany have also made this decision. So also the Semperoper in Dresden and numerous theaters in Cologne.
Among the performances still scheduled to take place is “Der Zigeunerbaron,” which is a new production of the house. Under the pilot project ” Perspektive Kultur “, the premiere and another performance should be possible. This should probably take place at the end of July. The exact dates will be published when “the situation allows further planning steps.”
Andrea Röber, spokeswoman for the Komische Oper Berlin, announced, however, that further plans could be made if incidence figures fall in the future.
Despite the season’s cancellation, rehearsals continue for Next Season 2021/22. This includes new productions and revivals, such as the opera “Oedipe,” whose premiere is scheduled for August 29.
