As part of this year’s Leipzig Book Fair, which had to be cancelled due to the pandemic, the four-day festival “Leipzig liest” (Leipzig Reads) took place as a special edition. More than 400 events, around a quarter of which took place in front of an audience, ensured that people enjoyed reading together and being read to.
The Leipzig Book Fair is one of the most important literary awards in Germany. The prize, worth a total of 60,000 euros, went to three women this year.
Iris Hanika was honored in the fiction category for her novel “Echo’s Chambers.”
In the non-fiction/essay category, Heike Behrend won the prize for her memoir “Menschwerdung eines Affen.
The Translator’s Prize went to Timea Tankó for her translation of “Apropos Casanova” from Hungarian.
