Festival fOR Video And Time-Based Art Forms
Since 1984, the Videonale Bonn has been dedicated to the presentation and mediation of video and time-based art. One of the most important tasks of the association is the organization of the international festival VIDEONALE – Festival for Video and Time-based Art Forms. It was founded as the first festival for video art in Germany and since then has taken place every two years in Bonn – since 2005 in the Kunstmuseum Bonn. Among the participants are pioneering names such as Dara Birnbaum, Lynn Hershman, Gary Hill, Christian Jankowski, Marcel Odenbach and Bill Viola. At the heart of each festival is the exhibition of entries to the international competition, as well as a festival program of artist talks, lectures, presentations, screenings, and performances.
VIDEONALE.18 – FLUID STATES. SOLID MATTER
Exhibition: March 4th – April 18th, 2021 at the Kunstmuseum Bonn.
Opening and award ceremony: March 3, 2021, 4 – 10 p.m.
Reflecting the themes of past Videonale editions with “The Call of the Wild” VIDEONALE.15, “PERFORM!” VIDEONALE.16 and “Refracted Realities” VIDEONALE.17 society in its egocentric escapist phenomena. Where do we think from here? Under the title “Fluid States. Solid Matter”, the VIDEONALE.18, with 31 works selected from around 1,900 submissions, opens up a reference space for thinking about a changing world in which social, political, economic and ecological contexts are re-evaluated and orders are reconstituted in complex dynamics.
