Organizer: klub katarakt Festival GbR
For 16 years, the Hamburg festival klubkatarakt has been presenting experimental music outside a strictly academic context, thematically as well as socially in an open atmosphere, experimental in design and structuring. klubkatarakt sees itself as a festival that addresses not only a special audience for contemporary music, but also generally interested listeners without specific expertise. The festival has a very heterogeneous audience, from all ages and backgrounds.
One thematic focus is space-related music. The festival has been a guest at Kampnagel since 2009, where it has three halls that merge into one another. This has developed into a tradition of Wandelkonzerte, especially at the openings, where the audience becomes an active part of a concert installation. In 2019, inspired by Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s idea of a spherical shape of time, klubkatarakt presented Parcours, a concert installation with experimental music from a total of nine centuries.
In addition, klubkatarakt is particularly dedicated to a music of long-lasting sounds and has presented such diverse artists as Phill Niblock, Éliane Radigue and, last but not least, La Monte Young.
