Meeting of the EU Council of Culture and Media Ministers

Meeting of the EU Council of Culture and Media Ministers

On the 30th of November, EU ministers met in Brussels for the EU Council of Culture and Media Ministers. Minister of State for Culture Monika Grütters spoke about the value of culture and art for nations, societies and democracies. A joint position was adopted on the cultural policy aspects of the “New European Bauhaus”, which calls for consideration to be given to culture and cultural heritage in the context of environmentally and climate-friendly design of cities and regions.

The new online tool “CulturEU” was presented for the first time, which is intended to simplify future access to EU funding opportunities. The aim is to generate a platform that bundles all information on funding in order to create an orderly overview. Based on questions about the type of organisation, desired support, etc., users will be shown the funding that is individually relevant to them. With “Europe promotes culture”, Monika Grütters already supports a similar project, which is aimed exclusively at German-speaking countries.

The outgoing Minister of State for Culture also spoke out in favour of a renewed reduced VAT rate, citing current developments “in the right direction”.
