Netflix series Dark – an international success story

The Netflix hit Dark shows that even a German series can offer the best genre entertainment. The current third season has been available on the streaming service for a few days now. At the same time, this will also be the final season and the events in the fictional city of Winden, its nuclear power plant and around mysterious time travel will come to an end. Netflix does not yet want to publish viewing numbers for the third season. But the streaming service already confirmed that Dark is the most watched Netflix original from Germany worldwide.

9 OUT OF 10 VIEWERS FROM ABROAD

The streaming service provider generally is not that open about the  exact retrieval numbers. Netflix only revealed this: “‘Dark’ is a huge international success: After the release of the first season we noticed that 9 out of 10 viewers came from abroad. This is also true for season two – 93 percent of the viewers of season one and two are not from Germany.”

Many international viewers would also like to watch “Dark” in German with subtitles, according to Netflix Corporate Communications. “For example, in Japan, about 3 out of 4 viewers watched the second season in the original language, and in Korea, over 90 percent of viewers watched the second season in the original language.” Outside of Germany, Austria and Switzerland, “Dark” is most commonly seen in Chile and Poland.

The final third season of Dark is now already been available on Netflix for a few days and a similar success can be assumed. In the eight episodes, authors Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese decipher the mysterious circumstances of space and time and gradually unravel the complex family stories in the small-town Winden. Finest genre entertainment with skilfully used mythological allusions await you in the final season.
