The Sony World Photography Awards were established in 2007 by the World Photography Organisation (WPO) with the support of Sony. The WPO promotes professional, amateur and student photography and provides the photography industry with a global platform for communication, collaboration and presentation of current trends in photojournalism, fine art and commercial photography.
The Freundeskreis Willy-Brandt-Haus presents the Sony World Photography Awards 2021. 330,000 photos from photographers from over 220 countries were submitted for this year’s competition -120 best-ranked and award-winning works will be on display at the Willy-Brandt-Haus Berlin starting in October. In its 14th year, the international, renowned competition presents the best that contemporary photography has to offer, from students to amateurs to professional photographers. Hardly any other photo competition offers such a variety of photography genres: With nature shots, expressive portraits, abstract photos and much more, the Sony World Photography Awards show a cross-section of the world of photography. This year’s images form a unique collection are dedicated to topics such as a plague of locusts in East Africa, a centuries-old photographic technique or moving testimonies of human adaptability in Syria.
